On August the 17th Jan Freeborn from the Wilts and Dorset Bat Group led a walk at sunset with 26 or so interested people. Currently Jan has a particular interest with Nathusius’ pipistrelles on the Avon and will be conducting a future survey in the Moot and the surrounds. We all listened to the bats on the sonar receivers and watched them dipping and feeding on the surface of the water. We learnt some interesting batty facts explaining the life cycle and life expectancy of bats (20 years and for some species up to 40 years). £70 was raised in donations which will go to the Bat Group.
