The Trust is not publicly funded. A condition of the purchase is that the gardens are open to the public each day without charge, from dawn to dusk, except when special events take place. Most maintenance works are carried out by a dedicated group of volunteers. Despite this, the gardens cost around £10,000 a year to run.

Volunteer

We are always very grateful for volunteers to help us with the upkeep of the Moot – such a large and diverse landscape garden requires constant maintenance. Our volunteers work at times to suit them once they have agreed tasks with Jeremy Parsons, the “manager”.  In addition we have regular “Working Party” days for specific work including one  in the Spring when we “wake” the borders up and one in the autumn when we “put them to bed”. These are fun occasions and more information on  volunteer days will be posted here on the website.

Become a Friend or Make a Donation

If you would like to support the Trust, please use our Total Giving site or print a donation form, ensuring you add your email address, and return to the treasurer of the Downton Moot Preservation Trust as detailed on the form.  You will then receive updates of Moot activities and events.  The Trust is most grateful for any donations.

Fundraise whilst you shop

Next time you want to purchase something online (e.g. Amazon,Tesco, John Lewis, ebay) you can raise money for The Moot simply by going through the Downton Moot easyfundraising link.  Hundreds of retailers use the scheme and it is a very simple way to raise a few extra pennies for the Moot each time you shop online, with the retailer making the contribution as a thank you for purchasing with them.  You can even download the easyfundraising donation reminder which will alert you if the retailer has registered.  Retailers donate between 1% and 3%.  Give it a Go!  You can see how much we have raised so far here.

We have a similar scheme with AmazonSmile – simply set your charity to Downton Moot and use Amazon Smile each time you shop on the Amazon Marketplace.

We have also been selected as a Co-op Community Fund Charity from Oct 20 – Oct 21. Every time Co-op members buy selected Co-op branded products and services, the Co-op will give The Moot a helping hand. All you need do is select The Moot as your local cause and the Co-op will do the rest.
