This year the Friends of Downton Moot found no friend in the weather on Easter Monday as they prepared to scatter 4000 chocolate eggs in the grass of the sunken lawn of the Moot. The inclement weather (torrential downpour) meant the Easter Egg had to be postponed until the following Saturday afternoon. There were slight worries on the Friday as it looked as if the rain might thwart us again, then the Committee members were going to have to prepare themselves to eat rather a lot of chocolate!!!
However the turn-out was fantastic. While the usual Easter Monday hordes were not expected, we were blessed with glorious sunshine and therefore a great crowd. Children of all ages up to 11 ran around with bags and Easter baskets searching for the colourful eggs, while parents chatted over cups of tea and coffee and cake provided by the Committee. A great annual village event which raised £540. It was about 1/2 of last years takings but great for a postponed event. Thank you to all who supported us.
